The role played by Facebook and Twitter in the events in Tunisia and Egypt is known by all.  The authorities' attempt to shut off Internet access to its citizens is a demonstration of what both social environments have contributed to the coordination of the Tunisians and Egyptians who wanted a radical change in government.

A type of "storming the Bastille" through social media. To what degree do our politicians understand what these experiences mean, not just for the countries affected today, but for the entire political class of any country?

The capacity for mobility through social media demonstrates how incredibly powerful it is, affecting the very root of democracy in that, given the situation and need, it bypasses the traditi

In the U.S. you typically purchase a company for its talent, without knowing if it's worth anything.  Let me explain.  A group of 5 or 6 well-known Engineers in the Industry (e.g. from Google or Apple or Microsoft) with an undoubted reputation launch a start-up.  Being who they are, they quickly get the financing they need -if they needed it;in many cases, they are self-financed- and the attention of the world.

Six months later, they receive a purchase offer for the company -that still doesn't have a clear business model- for more than 10 million dollars, making their 4 founders worth 2.5 million apiece.  What should they do? Gain easy money and get incorporated into a larger company? Continue in the uncertainty, not

The arrival of smartphones, e-books, and all the tools that connect to the Internet daily are turning the Internet into an explosive environment for unmeasured growth.  Yesterday, one of my readers commented that working "in the cloud" is already essential to support the growth of any business.

The games, first came individual ones that only needed one download to operate on our phones; soon will come the interactive ones you'll play just like on the Web, using your device from almost anywhere.  Will interactive games soon appear with competition for the attendees in stations and airports all over the world?

What is clear to me is that there are still a lot of issues to resolve online if we want to improve the speed of acces

The communications world still lies in the hands of the Telcos despite the time we have spent saying they will lose the control they have now. Few new wave Telcos are able to stand up against the old ones; they have always been able to change a lot of things and concentrate on improving their management capacity and massive financial resources.

This is creating two very competitive environments.  Those that, like Blackberry, are ultimately allied with the Telcos and more open environments, independent of them, like iPhone from Apple and the large number of devices that use Android to compete.

At the moment, Blackberry is successfully resisting -much better than expected- competition from the iPhone, thanks to this partnership.&nb

About moso

image

I talked about this before, but I received a couple comments in spite of the fact asking me to explain Moso's business model -at present available in beta and only by invitation. Moso is a social network for our world's innovators, companies as well as individuals.

It revolves around an integrator of social networks that allows you to concentrate on interactions between people who interest you and to maintain conversations with them, all the while setting the most innovative companies in the world afloat.

The business model is freemium, a lot of free services and some for pay, for individuals as well as companies.  The idea is that it will initially only be in English -the language of the web today- but that it will grow to

The debate generated around my previous post is very interesting. There is some commentary that I would like to put into perspective. Google's success over Yahoo is based on two critical aspects of an Internet company: Be the best at what you do (searches in Google's case) and have the best talent pool in the market, know how to attract the best programmers.

While Yahoo was becoming a modern advertising company, Google grew with the best programmers in the environment and invented new regions that didn't exist until then, developing at home in some cases but, in many cases, purchasing the talent out of pocket and knowing how to then absorb the purchased entrepreneur.

Facebook did not invent the social network; in reality, it a

Asdrubal, an Infoman reader, brings us the following comment on my previous post:

"To INVENT something great, you don't have to be a salesman.  To CREATE A COMPANY you must keep sales in mind.  They are TWO DIFFERENT THINGS.  And the confusion talked about here disappears with this definition:

INVENTION "attracts attention." An idea, such as Facebook for example, is simply an INVENTION seen as a system of communication and an interface.  It doesn't need to take SALES into account to be attractive, useful, or functional.  Later, once it has "attracted a lot of attention," that's when the "entrepreneurial vision" comes into play and tries to transform it into a COMPANY that has to SELL something. It's as simple

I received a couple of emails asking me how the current round of financing is going for DaD.  I will tell you here for your information. The current round, a total value of 20 million, has already brought in 6 new investors who have covered, in November and December, a total of 450,000 Euros of it.
We have investors pending at 1,250,000 Euros and that leaves us to cover a total of 1.3 million.

The minimum investment is .5% or 100,000 Euros, although there are some investors who have requested and obtained approval, by demonstrating their interest before the official increase announcement, to invest 50,000 Euros.  In this appraisal, we are not yet estimating the impact that the increase of DaD-IQOne for Eastern Europe, b

Few companies would resist a purchase offer from Google.  Groupon did it  and the reason is they expect  to get more money from their IPO.  This is noteworthy because, for almost the last 3 years, the majority of Internet companies that sell have sold to larger companies from different sectors without waiting to be mature enough to have an IPO.  It was quicker and easier.

If Groupon proves again that the Stock Market is a better path than a quick sale to a company in the sector, that will make many other companies think better of purchase offers from big companies.

Goldman Sachs is buying into Facebook at 500 million and accepting an assessment of 50,000,000,000.  It's not bad.  I read th

The world leader in any sector has a significantly higher value. However, the fact that Groupon is already valued at more than 4 billion dollars and, at that price, has already achieved half of their capital increase of 1 billion, seems unbelievable to me.

They are doing well; they did not let Google purchase them -whether for good reasons or not, I am not sure- but they are moving toward the Stock Market at full speed. Together with Facebook, it is the online company closest to the NASDAQ at this moment.

Creating a world leader in an Internet sector is the dream of any investor and, in the case of Groupon, you can see in certain cases, and especially in the United States, it allows investors to cash out.  A lot of th

There are always a million reasons to not do something.  Our comfort zone always weighs heavily on our capacity for innovation.
You want to do something but everyone advises you against it.  Things are going poorly, there is a severe crisis...don't listen to them - they want to stay where they are and protest instead of doing anything to change the world.

Our youth lack experience and the older generation -those who have it- lack initiative, that's why there are so few who do.  Some are without ideas, others without the desire.  When are we going to stop complaining and change direction? You have to start that project you've been carrying with you, chewing on for months, perhaps years.  How do you start i

Mi TL me mata

image

¿No os parece que el TL de Twitter pasa demasiado rápido? ¿Tenéis la sensación de estaros perdiendo algo muy importante? A mi me pasa.
