The truth is that every day the world around me feels more like it is slowing down. I don’t know if I am hurrying too much or if the rest of the world is napping. I am obviously referring to the traditional business environment. Their method of communicating, how long it take to do anything, the lapse between questions and answers, the way they approach meetings. Everything seems slow to me.
Am I obsessed with efficiency? It it necessary to work at this pace? I don’t know, but since I have all of my computing in the clouds and since we use Google Apps which is linked to my iPhone, I am always connected. My only problem is the battery that will die while I’m connected on a WiFi or 3G network and leave me without a connection for 6 or 7 hours. I am getting used to taking an electrical cord with me wherever I go.
The youth who start working for the first time often tell me they will send an email and not receive a response at all or not for 10 days, when they’ve already forgotten their message. In this connected world, response times must be different and we must speed up the rest or it would be better if we slowed down our pace for the good of our health.
Now I understand what “lagging behind” means…
